ALIA e-prints and the Open Archives Initiative

The ALIA e-prints archive operates as part of the Open Archives Initiative [OAI] - a project aimed at developing standards to facilitate access to scholarly communication.

Promoted and developed by organisations like the Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition [SPARC], publicly accessible electronic archives offer an alternative - or an adjunct - to traditional means of publishing. The Open Archive Initiative sets out standards under which electronic archives operate, to ensure that content remains openly accessible.

ALIA e-prints is another node in the network of OAI compliant e-prints servers - set up specifically to enhance the visibility of research in library and information sciences
