ALIA education

Qualifications

The number of jobs in the library and information sector is wide-ranging. The standard and content of ALIA-recognised library and information qualifications will allow you to work as a research officer, information consultant, customer service officer, program manager, data researcher, community information officer, information or knowledge manager, managing director, webmanager, lecturer, state or parliamentary librarian.

  • Librarian and Teacher-librarian
    Qualifications are offered at a number of levels and the course you choose will depend on the qualifications you already hold.

  • Library technician
    Qualifications may be gained through a competency-based course.

  • Library assistant
    There are no formal requirements for you to work as a library assistant but you can enhance opportunities for promotion.
